For a great running route in East London, try this 10km / 6 mile route from Limehouse Basin to the London Stadium and London Aquatics Centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
We’ve chosen to start this by the river at Limehouse Basin, but you can join all along the canal, as well as starting the route from around Victoria Park or Hackney Marshes.
From Limehouse, follow the marina to the east until you get to the start of the Limehouse Basin canal. The route takes you all along the path through Bow Common.
There aren’t really any toilet stops along the way, except for Poplar Union, a quirky cafe (although keep in mind opening hours and the fact this is not a public toilet). As you carry on up the towpath until you reach the A12. Here you carry on, under the road (which can get a little dark even during the day), before ending up at Bow Locks.
Head over the locks to join the River Lea and continue your run (or walk) along the path up to Three Mills. Cut through the mills before rejoining the river. You’ll need to navigate Stratford High Street before joining the Greenway, at which point you can follow the Water Works River towards the London Aquatics Centre, ArcelorMittal Orbit and front of the London Stadium/West Ham Stadium, or you can follow the Greenway around the back of the stadium.
It’s here you can turn around (or run around the outside of the stadium before following the route back.
Westfield Stratford Shopping Centre is a 10 minute walk from here where there are loads of shops and restaurants, as well as public toilets if necessary.
