Whether you’re in London visiting, or you’re just looking for a new route in the centre, this Southbank running route is ideal for taking in the sights while enjoying being by the River Thames.
The route starts at the South Bank Lion, next to Westminster Bridge and the Marriott Hotel County Hall, and follows the river right around to end at Tower Bridge. On the route you’ll get to see the London Eye, have some wonderful glimpses of the City of London and it’s impressive skyscrapers, as well as enjoy views of Tate Modern and St Paul’s Cathedral from a distance.
As you head towards Borough Market and London Bridge, the route takes you slightly away from the river and into the history backstreets (look out for The Clink Prison Museum and the Golden Hinde ship). You’ll then rejoin the route along The Queen’s Walk and the Old London City Hall, before reaching Tower Bridge and the perfect running selfie stop. Then head back along the same route.
The only public toilet along the route is at Royal Festival Hall (opening times vary), but there are also plenty of coffee shops along the way.
The whole route is on pavement and you can find this and other similar runs on Strava or your favourite running app.
